The College of Arts and Sciences is currently accepting proposals for Teaching Grants. Grants will be awarded on a competitive basis to tenured, tenure-track, and NTRC faculty for projects beginning Summer 2019. Grants are limited to $2,000, and the College typically awards three.
The College is committed to fostering an inclusive community and encouraging diversity within our ranks and academic discourse. To align with this goal, the College reserves one of the grants to a project specifically focused on enhancing and enriching our commitment to diverse discourse and curricula.
Proposals may be made by individual faculty members or by a group of faculty members who wish to work together on a project. There is no formal application form but proposals must include the following:
- a clearly written description of the proposed project (no more than two pages)
- a complete budget
- an endorsement from the departmental chairperson
- CVs of the faculty involved.
Please indicate on your proposal if you wish to be considered for the targeted grant for Diversity in Pedagogy.
The deadline to submit your proposal as an email attachment in a single pdf file is Friday, April 26, 2019, to Jessica Doss (email@example.com).
Project proposals which target a variety of educational goals are invited for submission. The Committee has established the following priorities:
- projects to develop innovative pedagogy
- projects to develop innovative curriculum
- projects to develop a new course
- projects to enhance an existing course
- projects to enhance the use of technology in the curriculum
This program is not intended to provide summer salaries to help faculty in routine planning for courses. Renewal proposals will be considered if a compelling case is made.
Certain items specifically excluded from consideration include:
- compensating a faculty member for duties considered part of his or her assignment
- purchasing laboratory equipment where students have been assessed lab fees
Criteria to be considered:
- the ways in which the project would benefit students
- the ways in which the information gleaned from the project would be made available
to other faculty
- the availability of other funds to accomplish the proposed project
- the ways in which the proposal might lead to other (external, pedagogically-oriented)
- the faculty member’s own record of commitment to teaching
Applicants should address these specific criteria in their proposal. Successful applicants will be required to submit a follow-up report on the use and value of the funded project.
The Associate Deans for academics and multicultural affairs will make funding recommendations to Dean Olin. Final funding decisions rest with the Dean.
