Call For Proposals: UA System Scholars Institute

The University of Alabama System invites you to submit a proposal to present at the 2018 UA System Scholars Institute, to be held May 10 and 11, 2018 in Birmingham, Alabama at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

The Institute seeks individual and group proposals for lecture, panel, hands-on, poster, and roundtable sessions related to technology in teaching, learning, research and scholarship.

Proposals must be submitted online by 5:00 p.m. CST on April 13, 2018.

Presenters will be notified no later than April 20, 2018 regarding the proposal status.

Proposal Guidelines

Information that will be requested in the online submittal form:

Proposal Type

  • Lecture/presentation – One or more presenters deliver a traditional lecture in these “listen and learn”-style sessions.
  • Panel – Panel sessions bring together two to four presenters to discuss perspectives on technology in teaching, research, and service.
  • Hands-on/Workshop -Participants in hands-on sessions explore new resources and develop their skills through hands-on activities using their own devices.
  • Roundtable – Roundtables are small, informal group discussions that give attendees the opportunity to exchange information, discuss best practices, and network with others around topics of common interest.
  • Poster – Digital or paper poster sessions provide an opportunity for informal, interactive presentations.
  • Suggested audience (beginner, intermediate, advanced, all levels)

  • Key points – 3-5 points/objectives the audience will take away from the session
  • Abstract (300-500 words)
    Suggested points to include:

    • Indicate why your presentation is important and how it impacts teaching and learning in higher education.
    • Identify important literature references and briefly explain their connection to the proposal
    • If your topic refers to an idea developed at your school or within your academic field, please explain how the strategies you’re recommending will transfer and apply to faculty in other institutions or fields.
    • List the ways you will engage your audience beyond Q&A
