ADHC Brown Bag: “Creating a Digital Exhibit: Little Space, Big Impact”

February 8, 2018 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

Dr. Amanda Thompson, of the Department of Clothing, Textiles, and Interior Design, will showcase the digital database project that she created with her upper-level students in a course documenting the history of textile techniques. This project grew into a digital exhibit and is a great chance to see how a class can collaborate to create a large-scale digital project all in the service of detailed research.

About the Course

CTD 446 Cultural Dynamics of Apparel and Textiles focuses on the impact of cultural dynamics on apparel and textile production and marketing. In one project the students are asked to explore an assigned culture to research a surface, structure, or combined technique that was carried out on textiles in the past and how they are interpreted in current apparel and other products. The visuals and text that were collected are used in a digital/small space exhibit hybrid. This solves the problem of small space or no space exhibitions of student work.
